Woot Woot! so glad to hear you have reached guatemala safely. I have gone to this blog three times today hoping to find you here. I miss you. Your bedroom is WAY to tidy!!! Now the work begins. I am praying for strength and energy for the days ahead. Its a comfort to know that our heavenly Father loves you even more than I do. Sleep tight tonight and don’t let the… you know the rest. XO
Sarah,
Mrs. Door and I are so glad to hear you guys arrived safely. May you feel the Lord’s presence this week as you work and serve the people of Guatemala. Like I wrote to Kyle, I can just imagine the singing and Kev and Kyle playing their hearts out on guitar.
Love, Mr. and Mrs. Door
we made it!! Thanks for all the comments and prayers… i’ve never experienced a place like this before, it’s crazy. Driving up the mountains on broken roads with wild dogs and kids running around the streets is an eye opening experience for me. We haven’t even left the base yet, and I already feel the Holy Spirit working in me. He led me to this trip for a reason and I can’t wait to see what he has in store for me.
oh buddy, I wish I was there with you! It would’ve been so cool to experience this with you! Tomorrow is going to be incredible!! When you walk up and see the empty concrete slab waiting for a home, the eager kids who are as nervous as you are, and the moms who look so worn-out, I pray that God breaks your heart and re-builds it with His love! You are an incredible woman and I can’t wait to hear your stories as you impact the team and the Guatemalans. You are a leader and one that many on the team look up to, I pray for discernment for you that you will “see” the ones on the team who are hurting, scared and lonely. Your gift of encouragement and joy will be such a blessing. Praying for you! Big hugs,
Kristy
Sarah,
Don’t worry about those hogs! they move pretty quick when the van starts speeding towards them! and by they end of the week those cute dogs you see will become like squirrels! Have fun and be safe on those roads!! Prayin for you guys every day!
Hey! It’s so cool that you have made the decision to reach out to the world in this way. I’m sure the folks their will experience Christ’s love through your interaction with them. You have been blessed to be a blessing, so let it happen! Keep an eye on Katelyn for me. Make sure she does some work and doesn’t just turn into a full-time child care worker with the children downn there. I’m sure you know about her motherly tendencies!
Have a great time, and be blessed!
Hi Sarah, I thought and prayed for you all day yesterday, especially from 11 to 12 for customs to go well. So happy that everything went so well. I know God has great things planned for you this week, can’t wait to hear the stories. P.S. Remind Kyle to keep his hands off his face.
SARAH!!! I miss fighting with you about clothes, but I miss you more
I am glad you made it safe, and I hope you are having a great trip… but I know you have fun with everything you do so I am not worried! Have fun with the little kiddos and take lots of pictures… I hope they like their purses and stretchy bands
I am praying for you! I love you Liz <3
Sarah! There is not a doubt in my mind that you are loving it! You are doing so much for those kids by loving on them! And it is safe to say that you have been doing that. I know the moms appreciate the attention too! I also think it would be a great idea for you to pet and hold some of the dogs!!! They are very friendly and clean! Hold a puppy for me!!!
Enjoy this time and let God break and mold your heart! Praying for you!
Jason
Hi Sarah, Your mom is so excited for you. I will keep her busy with coffee time.
Enjoy your time and be safe… The Mast family
SARAH!!
We’ve made a lot of decisions since you’ve left-can’t wait to tell you about them when you get home! We hope you grow to love the outdoors there so that when you come home you wanna play with us outside haha!
We are SO happy that you’ve made it safely…Lara is almost crying because she is soo jealous of you! Hope you’re enjoying yourself, and growing closer to the Lord every minute. He will use you for amazing things down there
Praying and thinking about you always,
Matt and Lara
Sarbear (my “precious” daughter),
So happy to hear that you all made it to “Gaulamala” safe and without problems. It was great to read your note and my hope and prayer is that you really feel the Holy Spirit’s calling. I am jealous…your comment about driving up the mountain reminded me of riding at night in the back of a coffee truck in El Salvador. Seeing the splendor in the sky was definitely a God-sighting. Make sure you pay attention to the people, your work, and the world around you in order to see God. It is good to take time out of our “normal busyness” to be able to do this. Keep smiling and have fun (which I am sure you will do). I love you!
Ah, my sweet Sarah! Wish I could lay in your bed with you every night and hear all the details as they happen. I read everyone’s messages and feel an overwhelming sense of care and prayer support coming from so many who love this group. This experience is sure to be a spiritual high that will impact you forever. So thankful for the group and the leadership. Kevin’s note today really touched me. REMEMBER …You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you…. My prayers continue. XO
HAHA! I laughed so hard reading this… “precious” daughter, how i’m going to come back loving the outdoors, fighting over clothes, Katelyn being a mom, and holding the cute puppies HAHA! I miss you all!
Anyways, today was again AMAZING! We went to a village and experienced Guatemala… the kids are ADORABLE! Abby you would absolutaly love it here! They run around laughing and yelling “dulce!” They are so cute!!! it’s incredible to see how happy they are when they are covered in mud and have no house. I want to write more but there are so many people that want to write! love you all!
Hey Sarah=)
I’m so glad to hear you made it to guatemala safely! I can’t WAIT to hear all the stories from you when you come back home! Make sure to give all the cute kids there a great big smile and hug for me! i hope you have an amazing rest of the trip!=) love you lots!XOXO
love –bert
Sarah,

Hello Sarah.
Shirlee and I are praying for all you guys in Guat. We hope all is going well and that everyone is healthy. Have a great time doing His work, and seeing His plans for you and everyone else. Stay safe and happy.
Sarah! I see you in the pictures holding those sweet babies…Herman is a good name! I feel like I am looking at you in a National Geographic magazine… it’s sort of weird. Keep writing when you can and I promise you I will keep praying. XO
Sarah,
So good to read about your experiences in Guatemala!! It is good to also read how God is using each of you and the impact you are having on the children and adults. Enjoy every minute and we look forward to hearing from you and Kyle about your trip!
With continued prayers and love,
Uncle Brian, Aunt Rhonda, Emily and Jay
Hi Sarah
I miss you and can’t wait to see you at Big Star Lake. I am having fun using your cell phone. Don’t worry, I am busy keeping up and texting all your friends! It’s a good thing your gone for a week because Dad keeps saying, “It’s going to be a LONG summer.” Abby is loving the great selection of white tank tops. Mom is constantly on this blog and Ben and Matt are working hard at staying out of the way. I love you, take lots of pictures,
your favorite sister,
Hannah Boo
Hey Sarah!
By the looks of the pics you are working hard and being challenged with some phyical labor. I am sure God has a special plan for you this week so keep your eyes and ears open at all times for his Spirit to prompt you.
PS: Stay away from the Frogs butt as I told you before you left
(Ask Amber and she can clue you in)
Mr. Goodyke
it’s AMAZING here
Today we almost finished our houses… they look awesome. The house that we are building is for a widow who Dan said he has never seen smile sinc her husband passed away… but she is already smiling
We worked really hard today, there was no rain so we got a lot done. The best part was that we got to hang out with the kids a lot. They are so stinking cute!!! I handed out a lot of hair clips, headbands, and bracelets. They swarm you and love all the gifts. The also love when you take there pictures so i will have A LOT to show you.. Since we have been working in the same village we have gotten to know a lot of the kids. This girl named Nanci “Saysi” is one that I seem to be with a lot. She’s full of energy and loves to be picked up and played with
There are also a lot of babies and they are so fun to hold. We gave everyone necklaces today and even the moms loved that. It’s hard to communicate with them, so I just keep Katelyn with me who is muy bien en espanol! I love it here… showing love to all the kids and recieving it back is very rewarding. It’s incredible to think that these kidshave nothing yet they are SO happy. It’s awesome. I love you all and thanks again for the prayers!
Sarah! I am sooo glad to hear that it went well today! MY guess would be that the only thing you had in your hands today was a child, not a stucco! Which you can get away with cause that is definately your gift!!! I am praying for you all tomorrow! It is one of the most tiring building days because it completely drains you physically and emotionally!!! Tell hermano that “hulk” says hi! that is what he calls me. I am so jealous! hold an extra child for me! Praying for you!!!
Jason
I just looked at the new pictures that were posted, I’m so glad that it didn’t rain today. It sounds like you had an awesome day. We are praying that the dedication day will show the people of Guatemala Gods amazing love for them. With love and prayers, Mrs. Door
Oh Sarah, thank you for sharing what you have been doing! I can just picture it! Thank you for giving the mom’s some attention. That is what broke my heart the first time I went to Guatemala. I would look in the mom’s and grandma’s eyes and see nothing but exhaustion, pain and despair. That became my mission that week, to make the mom’s smile actually reach their eyes! Often times, I would bring something just for the mom’s and when the kids would want them, I would say, “no, solo para mama y abuela!” The mom’s would light up and clutch the hair brush or mirror or whatever I brought, to their chest. These mom’s lives are sooooo hard! I can’t even imagine what it must be like to hear your child cry from hunger and cold and not be able to do anything about it!! or having to bury several young children because they died of curable disease. Anyway, thank you for giving them some attention!
I am so glad that you are on Josh’s team. You are an incredible woman of faith! I just wish I was there with you.
I will be praying all day for you tomorrow as you bring the largest gift of all…the gift of Jesus.
Stay healthy and keep loving those mama’s!
big hugs,
Kristy
Hi Sarah, I have been shedding tears as I have been reading the blog and your comments. I almost feel like I am back there again. I have never had a more wonderful spiritual experience. I had my devotions outside tonight and had a God sighting as I watched the beautiful sunset. I spent time in prayer for you and your team. I know God will bless you as you are blessing others. I can’t wait to hear everything when you get home. I’ll be waiting for you to come over and share. Until then I will continue to pray for you. Love you tons, Aunt Marcia
P.S. Don’t touch the dogs.
My “precious” Sarah,
Must be the keyboard you are using does not have an “L” or an “O” since your notes don’t contain your normal lingo. Either that or there is not any lettuce in Guatemala(think about it…lol). I love reading your updates and can’t wait to sit on the deck at the cottage on Weds night and hear about it first hand. It sounds like you are having an amazing time and have found some cute little friends (must be Nancy is not in 5th grade…lol). I am praying for you and the rest of the team daily. I love you!
Sarah! I just went through the notes and the pictures for the third time today. Seeing you and all the team working and interracting with the people makes me feel so good about it all. Those children are so cute and your smile looks more beautiful than ever. God’s love is shining through, Its my God-sighting. I love you. XO
Hey Sar Bear,
What an awesome experience. Dont take it for granted. Wish I could have done something as cool as this. Pictures and words sound awesome. I hope you grow closer and closer to God through this. Think about how many white tank tops you have and you still complain that Abby wears them. Crazy…
You might want to tell Kevin to take down some of those pictures…you look kinda sweaty in some of them…ew. Haha. Love ya kiddo. Stay safe.
Matty
Sarah! I hope today was just awesome and that the spirit was moving!!!! Yes I am commenting again. I am at work and there are no cases coming in so I spend my time on the blog!!! Sleep well because tomorrow is a very long and incredible day! I hope and pray, but also know that you will see God move in new and exciting ways that you haven’t seen before! It is an undescribable experience! The updates are great and so are the pics! The one of you and Kyle with the kid! oh man!!!
Enjoy and praying for ya.
Jason
Hi Sarah,
I’ve been reading your bloggings along with Katelyn’s and it is so awesome to see how the Lord is working in your life too. I am so very jealous that I have never had the opportunity to do something even remotely close to what all of you are doing. Maybe Kevin will have to sponsor a “parents and their kids” trip sometime and we could all do it together. Keep up the good work, don’t run out of candy, and give Katelyn a little grief for me every now and then. Blessings on you work!
Sarah, tonight during the large group time would you please take a couple of pictures while everyone is singing? I have been trying to picture the new base and can’t!
I am praying that it all went well today as you dedicated homes and lives. I can’t wait to read the updates! Know that you are being prayed for all the time! It is amazing how many people are continually checking the website and are keeping you and the team in their prayers!!
I LOVE the picture of you, Kyle and that precious little girl! That is awesome!
Big Hugs,
Kristy
Hello everyone! Thanks again for all the prayers and comments. Oh dad… Nancy is definitally not a 5th grader HAHA that cracked me up! Also, I will try to remember to take pictures tonight of us singing for sure
Anywho… today was an absolutely incredible and emotional experience. It was the best day ever!!!!! Today, we dedicated our houses to the families that we build them for. It’s an undescribable experience when all these families accepted Christ into their lives… Dan said he has only seen a dozen Guatemala men cry since he’s been here (I don’t know how long that is, but Katelyn guessed 13 years) and the two guys I saw couldn’t stop crying. It’s incredible to watch them hear and accept the story of Jesus. This is definitally an experience I’ll never forget. I also had fun with my little girl Seci (the same girl as before… Nancy, but I’m pretty sure it’s Seci lol). If she has any diseases… i definitallyhave them HAHA! She was on my shoulder all day and constantly climbing on me (Mrs. Gortsema said next time someone comes down here they have to remember ADHD meds!) I even got a few kisses!! (on the cheek of course lol) And I loved it
It was hard to say good bye to her.
Story: The group that has built the house got to sit inside it while the family heard the story of Christ. While this was happening, the rest of our group would circle around the house and pray. I had a little girl (about 7) come up to me while I was praying and sit on my lap. I told her to pray with me. As I was praying, I could hear and feel her sobbing. I looked down and she had her hands folded and eyes closed with tears dripping down…
Oh Sarah!!!! Yes, your stories are bringing me to tears! I have to think that this is one time where envy is okay….. After hearing your stories, I so want to be there. What an amazing experience you are going through. Something you will never, ever forget. I’m sure the mom who hasn’t smiled in such a long time will never forget you either. We are thinking and praying for you constantly and pray that the next few days go just as good!
Love ~ Mrs. Berens
Sarah! That experience with the little girl… My Goodness, I am teary myself. As much as you have experienced this week…I can only imagine! Kind of like heaven!! I went to Mrs. Jo’s today, had a nice talk with God by the pond. I read Kevin’s daily words and the teams updates and find it to be a bit of a spiritual high for me… right here at home. Thanks for the updates, they are a powerful way of showing how God is at work! Bless you my daughter and may the remaining days be fruitful. May good health and strength continue. Always in my prayers… XO
Sarah, What an awesome day you have had. Brittni is giving me the “look”, first I was reading Katelyn blog with tears running down my face and then I read yours, with more tears, Britt had to get me a kleenex. Praying constantly. Love Mrs. Door
Brow…you made this American man cry, too! Keep bloggin’ he details! You’re being blessed in ways you will never forget. We have sooo much to be thankful for here, and so often we take so much of what we have for granted! Keep being a blessing over there! I love reading your blogs.
Sarah! That is sooo awesome! I am so incredibly happy for you! I may have gotten a little teary eyed! (just a little.) That country definately has a chunk of my heart as I’m sure it does yours! Continue to let God move and hang on tight because the two med clinic days are gonna be crazy and the Holy Spirit is gonna be flyin through there! I am so excited for you and the team and the experiences you guys are having!!! At the clinic, look into the eyes of some of the ladies and see the pain and tired look, then show them love and compassion and those eyes will shine so bright! Enjoy!!!
Jason
Sarah,
It was so exciting to hear about all of the families accepting Christ today! So many of us have been praying for those families and today we were able to see everyone we have been praying for. The finsished houses are awesome to see but it is even more exciting to hear about their “new lives” in Christ! Joni says “hi” and saw Matt at the hospital today – apparently they are both working as NA’s. The picture with your “little friend” is adorable…..keep up the loving! ~Mrs. H
Sarah
Just wanted to say a quick HI and say that I am so glad that you are having such a great and awesome trip. How wonderful to be able to see others give their lives to Christ and see how powerful God’s Spirit is!! Keep up the great work and take in every moment. Praying and praying for you all!
Bill and Lisa
Sarah,
I love reading the updates. Yes the dedication day was definitely a very spiritual and emotional day. What an experience. Sounds like you won’t be staying at the complex where we stayed with the bugs and no electricity or hot water. Sorry you had to miss that experience. The new complex was like staying at a first class resort after staying at the old one. It’s really nice there. Anyway, I’m so thankful you had such a wonderful opportunity and are serving the Lord in such an awesome way. You will not only be blest now but also in eternity for your wonderful service. Looking forward to seeing you when you get home. I continue to hold you and your team in my prayers. Love you, Aunt Marcia
Good morning Sarah,
You have been a huge asset to this team! Your joy, enthusiasm and love for others is just light overwhelming the dark! Tonight when you are in the village, watching the Jesus film, take a moment to look up at the sky. You will be amazed at all the stars that you can see. (praying for clear skies and no rain!
) It is simply amazing to realize that God placed each one there and that the same stars you are looking at, we are seeing the same ones here in Michigan. Tonight at the same time you are watching the movie, I will be on my back porch praying for you and the team, with my eyes wide open looking at the stars! Today I am praying for safe travel. Keep Psalm 121:8 in the forefront of your heart today, “the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
Dedication day is always my favorite part of the trip! I love being crowded in that small home with the family, having the home surrounded by the rest of the team praying for this family, and watching lives being changed eternally!
Big hugs,
Kristy
Sarah, You are having an amazing experience in Guate! You’ll remember those moments for a very long time, I know!
Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ this summer. You and the team will be in my prayers as you head off for a whole different experience tonight with the medical clinic. Enjoy the fellowship with your team and the Guatemalans!
Mrs. Hogue
Sarah,
What an amazing day God gave you!!! Your story of the little girl brought tears to my eyes and shivers up my arms!! (I want you to know I don’t cry as easy as Kyle’s Mom!! LOL) Wow! What a wonderful experience for you!!! It has been so neat to read how God has each of you in a special way!!
Praying for a good rest of a trip and safety as you travel to the different towns and also as you come home.
Love, Uncle Brian, Aunt Rhonda, Emily and Jay
Sister!
I loved reading that story and it put things in perspective for me… I can’t wait to hear the other numerous stories on Wednesday! The pictures are absolutely adorable too… especially the ones of the kids ( I am so jealous). I am glad you are loving on them and give them extra hugs for me too! I love you Sarah and I miss you
I continue to pray for you and everyone down there!
Sounds like you are having a blast- spreading God’s love and giving hope to the people of Guatemala
Abby
Sarah! I hope and pray that tonight was a bountiful harvest!!! THe seeds are always planted! Thank you for answering the call to go! I know the trip would not be the same without you! Your updates have been encouraging and great and tear jerkers! (yes big guys do cry!) Enjoy your last days and I am praying for you!!! God is good, All the time!!!
Jason
Only what’s done for Christ will last. What you have done will last for eternity. Praise God! I continue to pray for you and your team. Love you, Aunt Marcia
Hi Sarah,
What an incredible time you are having. You have made in impact on some precious children. Continue to be a blessing as your days in Guatemala come to an end. We are keeping you in our prayers every day. Enjoy the shopping day and have a safe trip home.
Love,

Sarah,
So glad to hear you guys arrived back at the base. I prayed that all would go well. Can’t wait to hear your stories. May the Lord continue to bless you as your trip winds down and for safe travel home.

Sarah:
We are praising God for all He has been able to do in and through you in Guatemala! Just think, long ago He personally planned for you to be a part of this team and this trip, and then He equipped you and gave you the courage to do all that He called you to do. Lives will never be the same in Guatemala because of the way you shared God’s love with those whom He dearly loves. Your life, as well, will never be the same. How could it? You have been changed and have seen how much greater God is–and you are–when you let Him take complete control and simply follow and trust Him like a little child. In big ways, you have touched many little hearts–just what Jesus would have done Himself! Well done, good and faithful servant!!!!
The Dooleys
Matt 18:16
But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
Hi Honey. I have been cut off from communication for the last two and a half days because Dad’s computer didn’t work at the lake. Matt and Lara just arrived and now I can read and send you a note! Aunt Marcia read me Kevin’s note from this morning and I must say he is a very spiritual man with a gift for writing. I tried to relay the main points to Mrs. Mast and Dad and could hardly talk. Between the intense prayers for you and the team and the powerful messages, well to say the least, It’s been an emotional week. I praise God for the health, the safety, the work of the Holy Spirit, each and every member on your team, the excellent leadership, and this powerful experience that will likely change you forever. I now want to have you back with us, safe and sound and to see your beautiful smile in the same room as me! I love you Sweet Sarah, Looking so forward to hearing the stories.
Sarah! I am so glad that the trip was awesome and that you were used and changed by God! I am praying for safe travels for you all on the way home and that God continues to move in you and you are able to keep that great passion for him that you learned down there. Enjoy the last hours with the team on the way home because the busy world awaits, but you have made great relationships! So enjoy.
Jason
