I’m sorry I was unable to join the send-off but you continue to be in my prayers! I am praying for God to speak to you through the beautiful people of Guatamala! Be amazed by their joy amidst their poverty. Be in awe of God’s love for them!
Hey Jen,
Thanks for the text this morning (I hope you got mine too)! I am praying for you and the team everyday. May you plant seeds of hope and joy that God harvests for His glory. Today I pray for trust – that you would trust Him with all your heart that you might serve Him with all your strength.
I love you,

Hi Jenny,
Praying that you have an amazing week in Guatemala as you serve God, experience his blessings and bless others in amazing ways. (Keep you left eye on Amber for me would you? ) Have a blessed trip!
Brenda Goodyke
Dear Jenny,
I was up early — and late — praying for the housing project that begins today. So much to pray for! I also prayed for Spanish recall — I know your vocabulary is limited (very) so I prayed for recall – ha! I know how you like to make up your own spanish words so I’m thinking you will go to town with some of those on your tongue today. May today be a day that blesses others and opens doors. May the work of your hands and the love of your heart show the way to the Lord. I can’t wait to hear how the day goes. Please remember to pray for Jolissa after lunch today — it is a big day of uncertainty for her. Love you SO much! Mom
Hey Jenny – glad to hear you and the team made it safely to Guatemala! We hope and pray you have a great day building today! Enjoy each and every new day while you are there and we pray you will be a blessing to all who you come in contact with and you will also be blessed! Our prayes are with you all.
Hey JENNY!!!=] i hope you are having tons of fun in guatamala! i miss you so much! i can’t wait till u get back home! plz txt me right away when u can! i have tons of stuff to tell u about all ready:] i have my surgery today.. ill let u know how it goes i miss you wish u were home!!!

Jennifer,
God is watching over you today as you serve Him. He knows your thoughts, He knows your actions and He knows your heart. He loves you…
Praying that you feel the overwhelming love of Christ in you today as you serve Him!
Sandy Johnson
Jenny!
I am so excited that it is now YOUR turn to change your heart and life with the Guatemala experience like Joni and Jeff (and Jaci in Romania, I think that is where she went). God will use your abilities, strengths, and yes, weaknesses, love, faith, joy, and even your blonde hair (!) to draw His children to Himself through you!!!! Know that I will be praying for this awesome day as you build a home…a casa…for your new brothers and sisters in Christ–an earthly gift given with heavenly love. Even though you will only be in Guatemala for a week, the real gift you leave with them will last for an eternity!!!
Serve with joy!
The Dooleys
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Eph. 3:17-18
Jenny,
I was thinking about the many cultural encounters you and the team are experiencing (knowing that the food might be very different) and I was reminded me of the trip you went to with us to Great America. You and Olivia wanted pizza in the park and we had to walk a long ways to find it. You sat at the table eating that AWFUL cardboard tasting pizza and said with a big smile “this is the best pizza I ever had”. With a great attitude like that, you can face and handle anything:). Keep smiling! Praying for you!
Mrs. Stegeman
Hey! I’m having a great time here in guatemala.. my team succesffully attempted to build a house despite the heavy rain, we aren’t quite done yet.. but were getting there! The children in the village are adorable =] Even though im having a great time i do miss you guys! Jo i’ve been praying for your surgery and i hope it goes perfect today, i love you!
Jenny,
I’m glad that you were able to make it to Guatemala! It sounds like you are having a good time, and from the other posts I’m reading, the rain held off so that you could bet your work done! Yeah! Hope the next couple of days are awesome for you and your team as you see the power of our awesome God in the lives and hearts of the people there.
Brenda
Hi Jenny!
It was nice to hear your voice (or at least imagine hearing you give us a brief update) today. Jolissa’s surgery went well today and although there are a number of things she cannot do, we have much to be grateful for. My prayer for your today is for passion – may God fill you with His passion for the people in Guatemala. May God’s love be shown through you as you seek to serve Him. Simple acts of love are so powerful!
I miss you so much!
Love,
Dad

Hi Jenny,
Grandpa and I are so happy and proud you are busy doing the Lord’s work! We continue to pray for you. I was amazed to read you are building houses, I hope the rain stopped so you can complete the work you started. I hope you are taking lots of pictures so you can share with us when you get home. We went to see Jolissa last night and we brought her a loaf of bread because your mom said thats what she was hungry for after her surgery. Keep up the good work and we will continue to pray for you. We love you and miss you.
Grandma Sikma
Hi Jenny,
We will continue to pray for you, God Bless.
Sounds like you are having an amazing experience in Guatemala! Uncle Sim and I are so proud of you and have been praying for you. Julie went on a mission trip to Guatemala when she was at Spring Arbor, it was a life changing experience for her. I’m sure she would love to talk to you when you get back. We can’t wait to hear all about it and see your pictures. Did you bring rain gear? Hope so
Love ya, Aunt Cheri
JENNY!!! hi. i hope you’re having fun in Gautemala. I’m at your house right now
haha i brought Jo some candy after her surgery and then we layed by the pool. I am very lonely without you and i miss you dearly. The weather here has been sucking lately so your not missing much… I seriously can’t wait till you get back! I am going to cry every single day. OHH i got a glow in the dark seahorse bracelet!! just thought id tell ya :] also you missed a really really good bachelorette like omw soooo good! haha you’re going to love it. i saved it on my DVR if your parents didn’t. i could write all day but i gotta get home… have fun!!! Love your bestest friend PTIBBS
)))))
Dearest Jenny,
I don’t think I appreciated our “chat times” enough until now – because I miss them so much. It seems like so much has happened since you left. Jolissa’s surgery yesterday went as well as we could have hoped for but it lasted longer than I had planned. She did much better with general anesthesia — no imaginary friends or furry creatures running through the family room this time! (Hoooooot!!) Some discouraging news…….she won’t be riding for a while and probably won’t be able to ride english or saddle seat until next year. Our friends missed us at the horse show last night but Mackenzie pulled through big and took a second in english pleasure….almost took out Sarah Milatelo- Ha! (next week). Clancy is lonely and is ready to go – Aaron put his shoes on this morning so you can take off when you get back. I spoke with Jill at volleyball open gym and she missed you! She said she will be looking for you next Thursday and to say “hi”. Kelsey and Halea were the only two juniors there.
I have prayed for you throughout each day. It was so exciting to see your face in some of the pictures. The houses looked smaller than I remembered — but the pictures made it obvious that they are built with each square inch….covered in love. We are all praying for a break in the weather — can’t wait to see the finished project!
I bet you are glad you took along that “dorky” raincoat huh?? I love you soooo much and will be praying and praying and praying through the days ahead. Love, Mom
One more thing……..who do you think is doing barn chores while you are away? Jolissa is stuck on the couch and you are in another country……huh??!!
Jenny-
The pictures are wonderful. I am praying for the beautiful children of Guatamala and for you as you serve God! I am praying that your heart will resonate with the heart of a child with complete trust and love in your Heavenly Father.
Sandy Johnaon
Hi Jenny! Katie and I are remembering to pray for you (and the team) each day as you do the work God has planned for you while you’re in Guatemala. Contrary to your Mom, I have total faith in your Spanish recall….remember how easy it was while we were in Mexico? Hopefully you haven’t seen any scorpions on your bedroom wall like our first night in Mexico. That reminds me of Teegan (my bedmate!) … she scored the winning goal for Forest Hills Northern last night! They are on to the semis …as is Unity (of course!) Anyway, hopefully you are writing a journal everynight before bed (remember the one you and katie created in Mex? Hilarious!) so that you can tell us all about your amazing experiences when you get back. Much love, Mrs. K.
Hey guys! i miss you guys soooo much but i am loving it here too! The people here are amazing and i learn a new things from them each day. Today we got alot of work done.. including awnings, steckoing the outside and sanding oh yeah also we put in windows! I love all of the posts you guys send thanks so much for taking your time to write me stuff because i loveeeee it! I also want to thank you for all of the prayers too.. the weather held out all day so we mananged to get everything done in a short time frame, we even had time to spare to play duck duck goose with the adorable children. I can already see God at work over these past couple days.. he is truly amazing — soo many stories to tell and i can’t wait to share them when i get back! Love you =]
Jo– im soooo glad your surgery went great! i can’t wait to see you you have nooo idea how much i miss you =]
Mom– Sorry about that… but thanks soooo much for doing horse chorse for me.. your the best!!
PTIBBS– hahaha seriously miss you like crazy and i cant wait to see your glow in the dark bracelettt hahaha you crack me up! and for sure save the bacherlorette!!
Dad– Thanks for the prayers! i miss youuu!
Hi Jenny,
It’s Thursday evening and I am sitting in my easy chair and thinking of you. Today the weather was very nice and I am watching a beautiful sunset. I picked strawberries again today but they are almost done for the season. We hope you are having a great time. Grandpa has the Atlas in his lap and is wondering what part of Guatemala you are in, what is the name of the town you are building the houses in? Your Mom and Aunt Cheri stopped in for coffee this morning. Have a good night! We love you and miss you so much.
Grandma Sikma (and Grandpa too)
Hey Jenny! (I got invited to your mom and dad’s house today, so they put me on the PC)- It’s really nice for me to look at the photos of the work you guys are doing there; very exciting and inspiring what is happening. I suspect this experience is going to be a life-changer for you and the rest of the group. I’d be curious if your leaders have passed along or taught you some background history of the nation of Guatemala since going there…If not, I’m guessing you will learn alot more after you return home.
Best to you there,
Phil Block
Jenny! I hope you are having a wonderful time serving the LORD and having fun all at the same time! Funny how He can even make work fun, huh? We will miss you when we go slugging, quilting, and to Marshalls
I’ll be praying that you experience Christ’s blessing while you serve Him, and we’ll have to hang out when you get back to the states! Love you and hope you have a great time.
Hey Jen! I miss you!!!! It’s good to hear you are having a great time already. I am so glad you took the opportunity to give of time and talents to Jesus, there is nothing better you could do! And don’t worry I’m not having too much fun without you I’ve been working like crazy! We will miss you at Grandma Carol’s this weekend and at Birthday Bash. I will be praying for you all week if you have any prayer requests let me know! I LOVE YOU!!
Hi Jen!
Thanks for dropping us a note on the blog. I am so grateful God answered our prayers that the weather would allow you to do your work! I think about you throughout the day. My prayer for you today is for reflection – that you would reflect on the goodness and greatness of God and that you would see Him and know Him in a deeper way. May you find rest in His care tonight.
May God bless you as you serve!
Love,
Dad
Hey Jenny – looks like your house is coming along very well. Make sure Adam doesn’t ‘sneak off the job’ and he does what he is supposed to do! Thanks for all you are doing in Guatemala – you are making an impact on many people, including yourself. Enjoy the day and what God has in store for you and your team today.
Dear Jen,
The last thing I did before i ended the day…..and the first thing I did when I woke up was to cover you in prayer. The updates yesterday were exciting and I know that today is a big day for the team and the families. I’m eager to hear about your family and I promise to pray for you and your team as you dedicate your home. You are one of the most giving people that I know and I am sure this will be another joy-filled day for you. I miss you soo sooooo much and I love you! Mom
Jenny: Praying for you as you serve in Guatemala! I’m so excited for you that you had this opportunity to show God’s love in this way this week – make the most of every day and seize those moments where you can be “His hands and feet” to those in need! God is gonna bless you in ways you never imagined on this trip – be ready!

“God bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you and give you His peace.”
Hi Jenny,
Do you know how much fun it is to see all of you girls at work and how much you are accomplishing? I check this site a couple times each day and love to see the pictures of you accomplishing wonderful things. I know that God is blessing you and your group, and I will continue to pray for you.
Sheri
Hi Jenny, It was so nice to read your report on the work you are doing. We enjoyed reading about how God is using your activities to give Him glory! I haven’t looked at the pictures yet today but the ones I saw yesterday were awesome. We are having a thunderstorm right now in fact our TV just went black, but now the picture is back again. We love you and miss you and are eager to see you when you get back. We continue to pray for you and your team.
Dear Jennie,
DearJennie,
So happy you arrived safely. You are probably having a great time with all your friends. We had a fun time tonight with our girls night out and are busy playing cards. Your mom and I are losing big so far but hope to recover. I hope you have some wonderful , joyful experiences while you are so far from home and take care of yourself.
love, Grandma Carol
Jenny–I am so proud of you the way you serve the Lord; your skills, your mind, your faith, I am fortunate to know you and be in your family. I pray to our savior for your service to humanity and your safe return.
Love and God Bless
Grandpa Dick
Hey everyone! Today was a longer day than normal… we left at 730 and didn’t get back to the base until 645 ish . We did finished painting the inside of the house, decorated them ate lunch and then spent hours dedicating the 5 houses to the different families. This was a shocking experience for me– in a good way though. Over 20 people accepted Christ today and we got to watch it. I miss you all and can’t wait to see you! The weather held out again today =] byeee!
Hey Jenny! Hope you’re having a great time in Guatemala. It’s great to hear that you are showing God’s love to the people down there. I’ll be praying for you and that the rest of the trip goes well! =)
And P.S. You HAVE to take these kittens back! They are driving me crazy!
Jenny
What an amzing expeirence for you and for the whole team today! We have been blessed so much and I know that God is being so honored by what and in how you are showing His love. So proud and thankful that you recovered so well from the flu before you left. Lauren said you were really sick! You look awesome now and pray that you will continue to stay healthy and well. Praying for you often throughout the days/nights, Lisa
Dearest Jenny,
Wow – I was so blessed this morning to read some of the team’s blogs. It was great to read a note from you – they mean so much to us. I know you don’t enjoy the computer communication stuff and so I appreciate you taking the time to write and probably even stand in line. It is GREAT to see your smiling face in pictures — I know you typically run from the camera so thanks for staying in a few
. It is thriling to hear that your new homes also brought new life to sooo many!!! I have been praying for your family even though I haven’t heard much specifically stated about them a head of time — it was so exciting to see the photo of your team with them. Now there are faces to the people that I have been praying so diligently for. So – today you move into a new phase and I am praying the Lord’s protection over you as you leave the base. I am also praying for continued health and I’m hoping you are still taking your meds consistently. Jolissa is doing well. She was down on her back more yesterday because she overdid it the day before. Today she finally gets to take a shower so she is expecially looking forward to that. We are headed up to the lake and it will be hard for me to be up there without you. I miss you honey and I think about you all of the time!! Love…..MUCHO LOVE…..Mom
Jenny,
I was so glad to see by the pictures that you are working so hard! Continue so savor each moment of every day cause you will never forget this week in your journey. I can just hear you and Amber laughing and using your spanish with the little kids. We will continue to pray for that God opens doors today for you be able to express your faith in even bigger ways.
Blessings on your day.
Randy Goodyke
Dear Jenny,
It was wonderful to read of your experiences again today. I look forward each day to try and find out how things are going for you and the team. We are so proud of the work you are doing what an experience to hear and see the families accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. It looks like you did a good job decorating the inside of the house you built. May God continue to bless you. What an experience you are having so far away from home. We are continuing to pray for you and eager to see you when you get home.
Grandma Sikma
Jenny, So fun to see all the photos, you look like you are having soooooo much fun. Take care, we are praying for all of you. God bless, The Pettijohn family
Dear Jenny,
I miss you so much! It was great to see more pictures and read how you and the team are doing. I am sorry I couldn’t blog you last night. I took Jeff to Huntington University for registration and there was no Internet access. We had a great time and Jeff did an amazing job navigating through the registration process and picked a great schedule. Joni was particularly helpful with which prof’s to get and to avoid. Jo is doing better, but still can’t go without crutches. Jenny, my prayer for you today is to overcome your fears. In the presence of God there is the absense of fear! There are so many things to be fearful about, but God teaches us that the FEAR OF THE LORD is the beginning of wisdom. You know the fears you face and I pray that God would take those away except for a healthy fear of God Himself. May you boldly and humbly do what is right and seek His purpose in your life.
I love you so much and I am grateful to be your dad:)
Dad
Hey Jenny!!
I miss you! Im glad you can have a better understanding of what its like in Guatemala and how much it changed my life forever. Im praying for you!
I LOVE YOU!
In Christ,
~joni~
HAPPY FATHERS DAY! This trip keeps surprising me in a good way. The village visit last night really impacted me– seeing all those people accept Christ as their Savior was truly a life-changing experience. The drive there and back was very long and bumpy though! Today was are visiting a village around 4 hours away, this is our last “working” day because tomorrow we go to the market. Thank you for all of your prayers especially about the weather because its been great so far! i miss you all soo much and cant wait to see you =]
Hey jen!
Hope your having an awesome time…I’ve been thinking a lot about you and praying and missing you!! lol It’s awesome what your doing down there keep it up! love you and miss you lots, Liz

Love, Jolissa
Dearest Jenny –
I prayed for you and your team on and off through the day yesterday. It is such a privilege praying for saints “with faces” in a far away land. I grew up being taught to always pray for “the missionaries in the mission field”…..but I never personally knew who i was praying for. So… now… I am especially enjoying prayer time for each one of the “Ivanrest Missionaries” in that remote mountain village. Yesterday I remembered to pray that you wouldn’t get motion sickness traveling on the rough roads…..I know you struggle terribly with that. Many things going on back in Michigan but nothing compares to the life story that you are living in Guatemala. Today, with dad, we are praying against fear; may you go forth boldy with the message of truth, love and hope! I love you and can’t wait to give you a great big bear hug when you get home!!
LOVE YOU so very much, MOM
PS. In case you didn’t hear, Unity won the state soccer title again! We were so excited!!! This morning’s paper had a great big Shannon hugging Paige after the only goal scored……right below it was Tiegans’ picture – she led FHN to a state title as well.
oops…..shannon wasn’t big……just the nice big picture of her
Jenny, aring this experience with you and the team via this blog has been life changing for me. I can’t imagine what it is like for you, experiencing it first hand. What a blessing to witness the joy of men, women and children coming to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Praying that God will protect you and the team as you travel to another village today and for the hearts of the people you will come in contact with. Love, Mrs. Stegeman
Jenny-
It’s so great to hear how God is answering prayers. I will be praying for another incredible evening of serving and bringing people to Jesus. Huge prayers for no rain and a safe trip home.
Sandy Johnson
Hi Jenny,
We’re very excited seeing and hearing about your experiences. We’d love to spend some time with you in person when you get back, looking at your photos and hearing your stories. We’ve been hoping and praying that this trip is a great experience for you, simultaneously seeing how the rest of the world lives and doing something to connect with them and help them (and you!). Hopefully what you see, hear and share is inspiring you to survive the long, bumpy, uncomfortable journeys and living conditions. As you know, we have personally been changed via similar experiences and pray earnestly that God protects you and blesses you through those with whom you’re interacting. Hope to see you when you get back.
Love. Uncle Jim & Aunt Jackie
Hi Jenny,
Looks like you’re having an amazing time and working hard. Hopefully you and Amber aren’t causing any trouble. I know you are being blessed in huge ways by serving God over there and I know you are blessing others. Aren’t those kids just adorable! Well enjoy the rest of the time and I am praying for you and hope you have a good trip home from the village.
Mrs. G.
Jenny, it is so incredible reading these blogs and hearing how many lives are being changed and affected, both in Guatemala and here in Grandville! Right now you are getting ready to show the Jesus film, maybe you are finally getting a chance to eat some sandwiches from the base. I am sure you and the team are even more confident about how tonight will go, my prayer is that you all continue to get out of the boat…keep your eyes on Jesus… and know that with Him all things are possible! I am praying for Hermano Jesus and his message for tonight, for the team and the ones Jesus is calling to share their testimony. Praying also for safe travel back to the base tonight. I am praying for a hedge of protection to surround the vans the entire way back! Thank you for working so hard and loving so many!
Big hugs,
Kristy
hey jennnn!!!! its katie! holy cow i didnt know i could talk to you while you were in guatamola! this is sweet! i miss you dude. txt me right when you get home! mexie-besties for life.
i’ve been praying for you every night… hope this is a crazy amazing expirence for you that gets you even closer to God. Also can’t wait for you to share what youve learned and what youve expirenced!
love you! have funnn!
Dear Jenny,
It is so great to hear the stories of lives being changed and to see the pictures of the team and those being served! You know me well enough to know that I have shed a few tears over the heart-warming impact that Christ is having through the Guat team. Jo walked a little without her crutches today for the first time – in your quiet time, please pray that the bone in her knee will heal. I have always been amazed at how quickly you recover from sickness and I continue to pray for health for you and the team. It’s also amazing how heaven meets earth when we simply love others how God loves us. My prayer for you today is that God would open your eyes to the things unseen. The closer you grow in your relationship with God, the more you see His hand in your own life and in the world around you. May God grant you a safe return to base camp. May God bless you and keep you, cause His face to shine upon you and give you His peace!
I love you, miss you and can’t wait to see you!
Dad
I will be so eager to see all the photos of the muddy road and the pushing and shoving….God works in amazing ways through all of you. Thanks for being there and for serving. We are so happy for answered prayers. The Pettijohns

We have been praying for you all constantly and will continue to do so. We will pray for continued health and a safe trip back home. We are headed to a 4-H work meeting tonight and the horse thing just isn’t the same without you and Jo along! Dear Jen,
I chuckle as I write this final note. I chuckle because I know you have probably seldom glanced at your blog site…..most of you have been waaaaaayyyyy too busy for that. However, it has been a prayer page for so many as we have followed your daily challenges and blessings. Once again, the prayer cover is not complete without all of us blanketing you in prayer for your final night together as a team. Tonight will be a time of reflecting on His faithfulness to you this week…..a time to challenge yourself to take this week forward into the rest of your life….and a time to experience the love of your Father as He leads you in your final worship time in Guatemala 2010. May His love enfold you and uplift you and challenge you to reach out with great and unconditional love for others around the world –and back here at home when you return. We miss you like crazy and now we are counting down the hours until you return. Jolissa is going crazy without her “sissy” to hang with and tell all of those deep dark secrets too…..ha! I hope your day at the market was a nice change of pace and I’m so glad I’m not there to try to sort out the bed bug clothes from the few things that should come home with you. I will be praying tonight and I will have my phone on waiting for that “middle of the night” call to pick you up. Love you soooo much! Mom
“We know how much God loves us because we have felt his love and because we believe him when he tells us that he loves us dearly. God is love, and anyone who lives in love is living with God and God is living in him” I John 4:16
Jenny, This will be the last chance I have to tell you that we are praying for you and the team to have a safe and uneventful trip back home. I have been praying for you all along through this week and am amazed at how much work you and the team have done and it brought tears to my eyes when I read about how many people accepted Christ as their Savior. May God continue to bless you and bring you home safely. We are eager to hear of your experiences and see your pictures. God bless you.

hey everyone!! i don’t have much time– but thanks for all the prayers.. you can see God at work everywhere we turn and its crazy. I can’t wait to see all of you because i miss you! The car ride last night was the worst/bumpiest road i’ve ever been on!! i can’t even describe how bad it was.. haha but i still had a great time, we actually got stuck on one of the huge hills and had to move rocks for about 2 hours before we got to the top. Today was a blast we got to go shopping for about 2 hours in the market then when to mcdonalds — yummm. well i better go thanks again for all the prayers.. goodbye cya soon and love you =]
Jenny-
So good to hear that God led you safely to the village. My prayer is that the picture of that road comes back to you in your life during difficult times to remind you of God’s promises. My continued prayer is that you head home, that you hear God challenging you to what He wants you to take back home! May this mountain top experience bring true joy and a passion for God even in the valleys.
Praying you home…

Dear Jenny,
Wow – what a week! My heart melted as I read Kevin’s blog about the remote village, the impact the team had there and the miracle of the trip back to base camp. I can’t wait to see you Wednesday and hear about all your God sightings and other stories. After you sleep in, we will all go out for brunch or lunch and you can’t get home soon enough! Thanks so much for taking a risk for our Saviour! My prayer for you tonight is for physical restoration and a safe return home. May you enjoy the rest of your time with the team – hurry home!
I love you:)
